Terms and Conditions for Entry

Compliance with all terms and conditions for entry to this exhibition is required. UWS Exhibition Committee reserves the right to refuse any work which is too large or small, is unacceptable quality, is framed improperly, has damage caused by shipment, or is in non-compliance with all terms and conditions. Any work, once selected by the juror, that is later found to be out of compliance with any term or condition, will be disqualified from exhibition. Any artist who submits work which is later disqualified or who withdraws work once selected, may be banned from participation in UWS-sponsored exhibitions for a period of up to two years. The UWS Exhibition Committee’s determinations and decisions are final.

Each participant must be a current member of the Utah Watercolor Society. Participants are limited to a total of three (3) entries. Again, there will be no refunds once payment is received.

All works must be original. No copies or likenesses of another artist’s work or works created under instruction or paid supervision should be submitted. Photo references must be taken by the artist. All works must have been completed within the last two years and have not been previously shown in a juried exhibit sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society or WFWS.

Water media on paper, clay board, canvas, or experimental surface.

  • Acceptable water media includes watercolor, gouache, ink, acrylic, casein, egg tempera painted in a primarily aqueous manner. No water-based oils, alcohol-based dyes, or digital art will be allowed. Any questions on acceptable media should be discussed with the Exhibition Coordinator, prior to entry submission.
  • A work that is primarily collage must use water media paper painted by the artist.
  • A mixed media/collage work must use at least 75% water-based media in conjunction with other media, such as pastel, ink, crayon, casein, egg tempera, and printed collage papers. Water media must be the dominant element.

To determine the eligible size, multiply the height by the width of the unframed painting. The resulting number must be 100 or greater. For example, 8”x10”=80 inches (too small for entry) or 10”x10”=100 inches (eligible for entry).

Framing.

  • Accepted paintings must be framed and ready to hang with wire. Gallery wrapped presentations will not be accepted.
  • Artwork may have a varnished or glazed finish and may be framed without glass.

Paintings may not be changed after submission. They must look exactly like the photos submitted to ArtCall.

Photographic images of all submissions sent to ArtCall must be properly cropped without edges showing. Improperly cropped images may be disqualified or returned to the artist for correction.

All works must be original. Do not submit copies or likenesses of another artist’s work or works created under instruction or paid supervision. Photo references must be taken by the artist.

Entries cannot have been previously accepted into a UWS juried show such as Fall, Spring, or WFWS.

Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of selected work to and from the exhibition venue. See “Calendar of Events,” above, for artwork delivery and pickup dates.

  • All delivery costs, including shipping/handling fees where applicable, are the responsibility of the artist.

Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, or withdraw the work once selected by the juror. Artists whose work is selected and then not delivered on the designated delivery date to the exhibition venue will be considered withdrawn. Artwork deemed out of compliance with this prospectus’ terms and conditions is considered withdrawn.

  • No changes in price or other entry details may be made after the submission deadline. By entering this show, the artist enters a contract with the gallery, which will be the acting agent for the sale of his/her artwork.

By entering the exhibition, the artist grants UWS permission to publish digital and print images of his/her artwork. This permission exists in perpetuity and images may be used by UWS for the purpose of education, for publicity to promote UWS exhibitions, as well as for digital and print UWS communications.
